Diocesan Marian youth day to focus on RH issue
NAVAL, Biliran—With the celebration of October as Marian month, a diocesan Marian youth day to be held at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Leyte, Leyte on October 26 to 27 will discuss issues concerning the Reproductive Health (RH) bill and the Virgin Mary’s role on the issue.
“The 1st Marian Youth Day of the Diocese of Naval will be an immediate response of the young people in the diocese on the issue of the RH bill with the help of [relevant] talks on the topics of Theology of the Body,” said Fr. Cornelio Amante, Jr., diocesan youth director.
Amante said the youth in Biliran are aware of the issue on reproductive health bill but conceded that many young people on the Leyte side are not yet informed or not active regarding the issue and where to stand.
“So I decided to put it as a topic during the MYD together with the role of the Virgin Mary on this issue,” Amante added.
A series of talks and workshops will be given to participants during the afternoon session while presentations and forums will be held in the evening.
Dr. Susan Ida, a member of Human Life International (HLI) will give a talk on the RH issue. Vicar-general Msgr. Marvyn Maceda, will facilitate the event in behalf of Naval bishop Filomeno G. Bactol.
Young people of the diocese will present their stand against the RH bill at the culmination of the event.
Meanwhile, in celebration of the Rosary month, participants will join the dawn mass together with the Marian procession (Aurora) on the 27th.
An estimated 600 young people from different parishes and member-organizations of the Federation of National Youth Organizations (FNYO) present in the diocese will attend the event. Included among the participants are members of the family and life commission of the Archdiocese of Palo.
The diocese of Naval is comprised of Biliran island-province and four municipalities in Leyte. (Jandel Posion)
