YP on Valentines Day: NO to Distribution of Condoms
Today is Valentine's Day. A time to celebrate love and to show love to one another. But, as with many other Holidays, it is being tainted by the plans of anti-lifers.
There was a news article from the Philippine Star that said that condoms were being given away yesterday at a popular market that sells flowers for Valentine's Day.
According to the article: "The condoms, provided by private manufacturers, were distributed for free at Dangwa yesterday by a team led by Dr. Eric Tayag, head of the National Epidemiology Center of the Department of Health (DOH)."
Also in the article: "According to the DOH, the condom distribution program was not intended to promote the use of contraceptives but rather to encourage couples to engage in safe sex."
YouthPinoy is one with the Church in condemning this action of distributing condoms. We agree with the following statements (also in the article):
“It cheapens the significance of sex and human love,” said Fr. Melvin Castro, executive secretary of t he Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Family and Life." and;
"Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco said, “Education is the solution. We should not make a shortcut to solve some problems by using immoral solutions.”"
YouthPinoy affirms that there is a deeper meaning to sex and human love which is fulfilled within marriage. And that educating couples on abstinence, purity and chastity; and strengthening of family values is the cure to the proliferation of HIV / AIDS.
